Tron Legacy Papercraft: Clu Identity Disc
I have finished my third Tron: Legacy papercraft. This is the identity disc weapon of Clu, the main bad guy in the movie. Clu is the only character in the movie to have a dark yellow color highlighting his costume and identity disc. The 1:1 scale template for Clu's disc may be downloaded here. Looking ahead, I have gotten several requests to do Kevin Flynn's white identity disc, but I don't know if I can produce a papercraft version that will do it justice. We shall see... just don't hold your breath. ^^
KH2 Papercraft: Space Paranoids Treasure Chest
Here is this month's Kingdom Hearts II treasure chest papercraft. This chest is from the Space Paranoids area of the game. Space Paranoids takes its name from a fictional video game created by the character Kevin Flynn in the 1982 movie Tron, and as such, the area in Kingdom Hearts has much the same look as the movie. The template for the treasure chest may be downloaded here. Back in December when Tron: Legacy was released, a group that likes to call themselves "Space Cat Press Video Warriors" fancied the idea of wearing old school Tron helmets to the movie opening. The Warriors decided that my Tron 2.0 helmet paper model was just the ticket and took it upon themselves to revamp the papercraft template to meet their needs. First, they traced the entire template in Adobe Illustrator to eliminate the pixelation of the original video game textures. Second, they created two different colored templates, one in "Flynn blue" and the other in "Clu yellow". Finally, they scaled the helmet's size down to 95% of the original helmet (their craniums must be smaller than mine ^^). I have converted their Illustrator files into PDF files and made them available here. Just for fun, below is a clip of Clu from the original Tron movie. The style of the "Clu yellow" papercraft helmet is somewhat different from what Clu actually wears in the movie, but I think the Warriors were pretty close to the mark on the color. Oh, our friend the Bit makes an appearance in the video clip as well. :)Tron Legacy Papercraft: Rinzler Identity Disc
I got the urge to create another papercraft from the Tron:Legacy movie. ^^ This is the identity disc of Rinzler. Rinzler is bad guy Clu's top enforcer and apparently the only program capable of wielding two identity discs in battle (see animation below). Like my earlier Sam's Identity Disc papercraft, this is a tough one to build. Lined and unlined templates are available here. A build of the unlined template constructed without folds is shown in the photo above.
Official Tron Legacy Lightcycle Paper Models
Disney has added two more lightcycles to their collection of 3D Tron papercraft! On top is Kevin Flynn's personal lightcycle, said in the Tron: Legacy movie to be "the fastest on the grid". Below that is the lightcycle belonging to Flynn's archenemy, CLU. The templates for the lightcycles may be downloaded here and here. Tron Legacy Papercraft: Sam Flynn Cubee
The new Tron: Legacy movie will be released tomorrow in the US! Here's a custom Tron cubee by randyfivesix at DeviantART. Although not labeled as such, it presumably represents Sam Flynn dressed in his arena battle gear. Sam Flynn is the main character in Tron: Legacy. The template for the cubee is available here.

Tron Legacy Papercraft: Sam's Identity Disc
Given the fact that I have done papercraft identity discs for every other major character in the Tron universe, you knew it was just a matter of time before I did a paper model of Sam Flynn's identity disc from the upcoming Tron: Legacy movie. ^^ Sam is the son of Kevin Flynn, the lead character in the original Tron movie. Here are some scenes of the disc in action (with some Daft Punk music for atmosphere ^^):
Unlike the previous identity discs I did, which were 1:2 scale, this identity disc is full size. Although the disc may look pretty simple, but it is actually a fairly difficult build. There are two templates in the download, one with folding guide lines and one without. In the photo is my test build of the unlined template built without any folds. If the disc is built with folds I would give the difficulty level a 4 out of 5. Building without folds, I would give it a difficulty level of 5 out of 5! The finished disc is 10" (25 cm) across and 1" (2.5 cm) thick at the widest part. The PDF templates for the disc are available here.
Tron Legacy Papercraft: Lightcycle & Recognizer
Tron:Legacy, Disney's sequel to the 1982 movie Tron is set to be released in December 2010. In advance of the movie, DisneyFamily.com has released several craft items for kids including a 3D papercraft lightcycle and a 3D paper recognizer. Both the lightcycle and the recognizer are vehicles that appear in the original movie and they get an updated appearance for the new movie. Tron 2.0 Papercraft: Lightcyclist Bust
The first papercraft I posted in 2009 was a Tron papercraft, so I suppose it is fitting that I end the year with another Tron model. Anyone remember my WIP post for this? I started working on the template for this lightcyclist bust mid-year sometime, started building the model in September and have only finished just now. Except for the eyes and some portions of the hair, the build process is relatively simple. Lightcyclists such as this one appear only briefly in the Tron 2.0 video game and come in several different colors such as red, blue, green and yellow. Tron Papercraft WIP: Lightcyclist Bust
I don't usually do "work in progress" posts, but I will probably start doing more in the future. I have been working on several elaborate projects that will take longer to release and I wanted to give a taste of some of them in advance. This Lightcyclist Bust is about 30% of the way through the test build. Once again the original model is from the Tron 2.0 video game. I decided to build a life size bust because the level of detail in the face made it difficult to do a smaller scale complete figure. As the project stands now, it looks like the template will have about 29 pages. Wish me luck!
Steampunk Gas Mask Papercraft
Parts of the Tron 2.0 video game take place in the "real world" as opposed to the electronic world inside a computer, so there are 3d models in the game of real world people and items. I think this gas mask appears in a scene in a laboratory. I chose to label this papercraft model "Steampunk" instead of "Tron" because of the way it is styled and also because it just wasn't all that Tron-like. ^^ The finished model is sized to be wearable but as the paper strap is not elastic you will need to modify the strap in some way if you want to be able to take it on and off. Adding velcro to the paper strap or replacing the paper strap with a real elastic band are possibilities. Here is the template info:Scale: 1:1

Full Size Tron Helmet Papercraft
This is a full size papercraft model of the helmet that the character Alan Bradley wears after he is teleported inside a computer in the Tron 2.0 video game. Alan is the computer programmer who wrote the Tron program. The Alan Bradley character was played by actor Bruce Boxleitner in the Tron movie and voiced by Boxleitner in the video game. Except for the more elaborate decorative pattern, this helmet is very similar to helmets seen in the original movie. I was very pleased with how well the parts of this model fit together when I was building it. The finished model is sturdy enough to be worn, but it may require some padding inside to get it to fit correctly. Here is the template info:Scale: 1:1

Tron 2.0 Papercraft: Jet's Identity Disc
This is my third and final Tron identity disc papercraft. This disc, which is from the Tron 2.0 video game, has a more elaborate pattern than the discs I did previously. The owner of this identity disc is Jet Bradley, the playable character in the game. Jet is not a computer program like most characters in the game, but a human who has been teleported into the computer world. Jet's father, Alan Bradley, was the programmer who created the program known as "Tron".Template Info

Tron Papercraft: Sark's Identity Disc
I finally got around to finishing the companion to the Tron's Identity Disc papercraft I posted two weeks ago. This is the identity disc of Tron's enemy, Sark. In the original Tron movie, heros are colored blue while villians are colored red, so the red color of Sark's disc identifies him as a villian. In addition to the original movie, Sark is a boss in the Space Paranoids world of the Kingdom Hearts II video game. Albeit a little fuzzy, here is a taste of how he appears in the game:Template Info

Tron's Identity Disc Papercraft
Back in January after I posted my Tron Bit papercraft I got a request to do some Tron identity disc papercraft. Today I am finally delivering! The 3D model used to create this papercraft was taken from the Tron 2.0 video game. I created a disc texture to match Tron's own identity disc as it appeared in the original movie. Other disc models I am planning on posting in the future are Sark's identity disc and Jet's identity disc from Tron 2.0. The the disc base is my own design and is intended to match the bases that go with the Bits. In the Tron universe identity discs have multiple functions including offensive weapon, defensive weapon, and data storage device. Tron 2.0 Papercraft: Hog Goggles
As if I don't have enough works in progress already with Star Trek and comic book character mask projects, I have started working on some papercraft based on 3D models ripped from Tron 2.0. Tron 2.0 is a 2003 video game which should not to be confused with Tron 2 the movie sequel scheduled to be released in 2011. For those unfamiliar, the story lines of both the original 1982 movie and the video game involve humans who are transported to an electronic realm inside a computer where programs appear as living beings. This papercraft is of goggles worn by "Resource Hogs", typical enemy programs in the video game. Template info is as follows:Scale: 1:1 (estimated)

As with the Star Trek Elite Force papercraft I am doing, I will be starting simple with the Tron 2.0 models and working towards greater complexity. I think the more complex Tron models will be beautiful to behold with their brilliant colors and elaborate patterns. You can get a taste of what I am talking about from the image of the Hog above.
Tron Recognizer Papercraft
In the 1982 movie Tron ominous hovering vehicles called "recognizers" are used by the army of the villainous Master Control Program to capture programs and guard the game grid. The designer of this papercraft has attempted an accurate recreation of an recognizer even going as far as using clear acrylic rods to give the illusion that the individual parts of the recognizer are hovering separate from one another just as they appear in the movie. Downloads of both color and un-colored templates are available here. A template for a display stand is also available. This model is the work of Marco Scheloske, Germany, 2003.
